FFV Foundation Minutes: March 14, 2004

The meeting was held at Virginia Department of Forestry headquarters in Charlottesville at 1:40 pm.

Present were Cris Leonard FFV Foundation President, Bob Born Foundation Secretary, Jim Garner Foundation Treasurer, Bill Tanger Foundation Director, Bob Peck Foundation Director and Roc Cooper Foundation Director.  Absent was Rick Mattox Foundation Registered Agent.

Also in attendance were FFV members Barbara Green, Cathy Leonard, Ginnie Peck, Juanita Tanger and Tom Stephenson.

Cris called the meeting to order and the following was discussed.  Cris asked for ideas on fundraising.  After some discussion, the directors decided to pursue the option of another canoe raffle with a limit of 600 tickets.  Bill Tanger agreed to get the tickets printed and supply 2 used paddles.  Bob Born is to look into procuring the canoe through Blue Hole or Appomattox River Company.  The drawing was set to be on the Memorial Day Float, 2005 or before if all tickets are sold.

The issue of possible publicity for the Randy Carter Award presentation was addressed next.  After discussing possibilities it was decided that the Friends of the Rappahannock Telethon will be explored as first choice.  Second choice was Fredericksburg's Riverfest 2004.  The third alternative is The Great Rappahannock Whitewater Canoe Race.  The Randy Carter Chapter Headsuckin' is another possibility.

As of Feb 28, 2004 the bank balance was $4154.02.   A check was issued to Lynchburg Specialty Engraving and Awards for engraving name plates for the 2004 Randy Carter Award in the amount of $24.51.

The issue of the need to develop a mission statement to better define the role of the FFVF prompted a heated debate.  It was apparent there was a large difference of opinion as to the function of the foundation.  Jim Garner presented a letter to FFV members as possibility of being included in next Newsletter.  After much discussion it was decided that Jim Garner, Roc Cooper and Bob Born would draft a letter to the membership of FFV asking for feedback on the mission of FFVF and send as a separate mailing to members.  Motion by Jim Garner that FFVF pay for this mailing, Seconded by Roc Cooper, passed unanimously.  Rick Mattox had agreed at the previous meeting to receive ideas/feedback that may help us with a mission statement and help us to consider new activities or direction.  Cris is to ask Rick if he will still do this.

Motion by Jim Garner that meeting be adjourned, Seconded by Roc Cooper, passed unanimously.

Submitted by Bob Born, Secretary.
